Update the appliance
Install a new Retivo version on the appliance, and what happens to Ubuntu updates.
Retivo
- Open the appliance's console.
- Choose Update Retivo. The appliance checks download.retivo.ae and shows the new version, if there is one.
- Confirm. Retivo is down for about a minute while it restarts.
Every update is signed by Retivo and checked before anything changes. The new version is installed next to the current one; if it doesn't start, the appliance switches back by itself and tells you. Your devices, backups and settings stay as they are.
Before a big update you can take a snapshot of the VM in VMware or Proxmox. Delete it after the update has run for a day.
Ubuntu
Ubuntu security updates install by themselves every day. A few, such as a new kernel, take effect at the next restart: choose Reboot in the console menu at a quiet moment, for example once a month.
A new appliance version instead
Sometimes a release also changes the appliance's operating system. In that case import the new image as a new VM, link it, then move your data:
- In the old Retivo's web interface, export what you need (inventory, credentials) and let the off-box backup copy run. See Keep backups off the box.
- Remove the old node under Download & setup on dash.retivo.net, then link the new VM.
The release notes say when this is needed.
