Import the appliance into VMware
Deploy the Retivo OVA on ESXi, vCenter, VMware Workstation or Fusion.
You need the .ova file from Download & setup on dash.retivo.net. See Install the Retivo appliance for what the VM needs.
ESXi host client
- Sign in to the ESXi host client at
https://<esxi-host>/ui. - Virtual Machines > Create / Register VM > Deploy a virtual machine from an OVF or OVA file, then Next.
- Name the VM, for example
retivo, and drop the.ovafile in. Next. - Pick the datastore. Next.
- Network mappings: choose the port group that reaches your devices and the internet. Disk provisioning: Thin. Leave Power on automatically ticked. Next, then Finish.
- Wait for the upload to finish in Recent tasks, then open the VM's console. Carry on with First start of the appliance.
vCenter
- Right-click a cluster, host or folder and choose Deploy OVF Template.
- Local file, select the
.ova. Next. - Name the VM and pick the folder, then the compute resource, then Next through the details page.
- Select storage: pick the datastore and Thin Provision.
- Select networks: map VM Network to the port group that reaches your devices and the internet.
- Finish, then power the VM on and open its console.
VMware Workstation or Fusion
- File > Open (Workstation) or File > Import (Fusion) and select the
.ova. - Choose a name and folder, then Import.
- Set the network adapter to Bridged so the appliance gets an address on your network. NAT works for a test, but your devices must then be reachable from the host.
- Power the VM on. The console window shows the setup menu.
Good to know
- The appliance includes VMware Tools (open-vm-tools): vSphere shows its IP address, and Shut Down Guest and Restart Guest work.
- Don't use Clone to make a second Retivo: a clone has new hardware IDs and dash.retivo.net refuses it as a copy. Import the OVA again and link the new VM as its own node.
- Snapshots before an update are fine; delete them once the update has run for a day.
